Bulgarian language, origin and dialects spoken over the world.
Origin and History
Bulgarian, particularly in Bulgaria, is a South Slavic language spoken in South-eastern Europe. This is the tongue of the people of Bulgaria.
Between the 9th and 11th centuries, Old Bulgarian was used, also known as Old Church Slavonic. It was used by religious people, such as St. Cyril and Methodius, to translate the Bible from Greek into Slavic and to write other religious texts. Middle Bulgarian, which was used for uses such as the transcription of folk tales, then progressed from the 12th to the 15th century. It is a member of the Balkan sprachbund and the South Slavic dialect continuum of the Indo-European language family alongside the closely related Macedonian language (collectively comprising the East South Slavic languages).
Both languages have some features that differentiate them from all other Slavic languages: improvements include the abolition of case declension, the development of a suffixed definite article and the absence of an infinitive verb, but the Proto-Slavic verb structure is preserved and further developed. One such big advancement is the invention of proof verb forms to encode: observed, assumed, or recorded for the source of knowledge.
Modern Bulgarian eventually took root from the 16th century onwards, during the time of Turkish rule, borrowing words from Greek and Turkish. In terms of grammar and syntax, it later modified radically and started to borrow vocabulary from other languages, such as Russian, French, and German.
Countries spoken
It is Bulgaria's native tongue, and it has been one of the official languages of the European Union since 2007. It is also spoken in many other nations by minorities. Home speakers in Ukraine, Greece, Moldova, Turkey, and Romania are available.
