Japanese language, origin and dialects spoken over the world.

Origin and History

Japanese is an isolated language and one of the most important languages in the world. It is spoken mostly in the Japanese archipelago. Japanese is the official language of Japan and is used by a part of the population in 3 other countries as a mother tongue. No country other than Japan has used Japanese as a first or a second language since the mid-20th century.

Among linguists, the origin of Japanese is in significant dispute. For a variety of sources, evidence has been offered: Ural-Altaic, Polynesian, and Chinese among others. Of these, the Ural-Altaic family, which includes Turkish, Mongolian, Manchu, and Korean within its jurisdiction, is most commonly believed to be related to Japanese.

The geography of the region, characterised by high mountain peaks and deep valleys, as well as small, isolated islands, has facilitated the creation across the archipelago of different dialects. Different dialects are frequently mutually unintelligible; most of the residents of the main island of Honshu do not understand the speakers of the Kagoshima dialect of Kyushu.

Similarly, most individuals in metropolitan Tokyo or elsewhere in western Japan do not recognise northern dialect speakers from such areas as Aomori and Akita. Eastern, Western, and Kyushu dialects or merely Eastern and Western dialects, the latter including the Kyushu group, are then divided into three groups.

The propagation of the kyōtsū-go "common language," which is based on the Tokyo dialect, has achieved linguistic unity.

Countries spoken

With a share of about 99%, it is the most prevalent in Japan. A total of roughly 126.6 million people speak Japanese as their mother tongue globally. Although Japanese is almost exclusively spoken in Japan, it is spoken outside. Often Japanese emigrant groups use Japanese as their main language. Around 12 percent of people in Hawaii speak Japanese, with an estimated 12.6 percent of the Japanese ancestry population. In Peru, Argentina, Australia, Canada, the United States, and the Philippines, Japanese emigres can also be identified.
